The Dogwood Canoe & Kayak
Club is a group of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities who

We paddle solo and tandem canoes and kayaks on flat water,
moving water, white water, oceans, estuaries, lakes, and
ponds. A number of our members sail canoes. Organized trips
are planned from March to November. In the winter months you
will find many of us skiing the hills or at the pool trying
to nail that roll.
While there are many planned club trips
there are also many more almost spur-of-the-moment outings
at the mercy of tides and weather. Check the Calendar page
to view the current list of trips and current contact information.

It is with heartache, eased
by numerous memories, that we mark the death
of Mary Rode, wife, mother, grandma, auntie,
friend. Raised in Kerrisdale, Mary and her
husband 'Howie' made their lifelong home in
Lynn Valley, until dementia robbed her of
independence but not her independent spirit.
Mary's passions in life were music and
mountains. Mary studied piano, sang in
choirs and light opera choruses, and played
low brass in concert bands. She pursued her
love of the outdoors with the Varsity
Outdoor Club, Alpine Club of Canada, Dogwood
Canoe Club, VNHS, as well as on family
camping, hiking, skiing, paddling and
mountaineering adventures. A generous
volunteer behind the scenes, she is a
recipient of the ACC Distinguished Service
award. Mary is survived by her husband
Howard, daughter Marilynn (Chris), son Brian
(Heidi), grandchildren Jeff, Peter, Erica,
Liam, Lar, and Lochlan, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held
Wed. Aug 29, 1 – 4 pm at the (new) Enquist
Lodge on Mt. Seymour. In lieu of flowers,
please contribute to North Shore Rescue.
